All our cedar is peeled shortly before use to keep a clean appearance. Cedar far out lasts any untreated pine product on the market with its natural resistance to decay. The USDA Forest Products Wood Handbook states that untreated cedar will resist decay.
It further states that pine species are non resistant to decay and even when sealed will only last 7 to 10 years when exposed to moisture. White cedar shrinks far less than pine and requires only a fraction of the maintenance in exterior applications. Cedar is nature's choice for exterior use. When Cedar is used in interiors, it will stain to match your pine trim, logs, stairways etc. With proper care and maintenance your cedar railings should last the life of your home!
Bends and cracks are all part of nature and are not flaws but individual characteristic of each log, which adds to the rustic beauty of your railing system. Please remember, we are manufacturing your railing system from logs, not milled or machined dowels!
